The 4th of February 2006 marked the end of an eight year long project for the author to have the burial site of his great grandparents marked with a headstone at the Fairfax cemetery, Tokomairiro.
It started in 1998 when at the Finch reunion associated with the Otago sesqui centennial celebrations no one was able to show me where these people were buried.
62 relatives attended the unveiling and a meal marked the occasion.
All those involved in this project are named and acknowledged.
The cost of the restoration and additional plaque was $3200.
George and Jessie along with the ashes of their eldest son William John “Jack” Finch are buried in the same plot as their daughter in law Frances McKinley, wife of their son Donald McNaughton Stuart Finch. KIA 12th Oct. 1917 Bellvue spur, Passchendaele.
