Granted that sand carpets have a place but their cost is questioned when compared with soil-based fields based on data gathered from the 2001 & 2003 Best Sports field Competition results
The results were used to measure use and cost; Presentation, Use hrs/week, Annual cost, Expenditure per week.

SPORTS FIELD DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY 1996. Citing the value of sport, the increasing demand and the high renovation costs being incurred as a consequence of the wet winter a team led by the author RMF developed this strategy.
